George Harry Weekly, 99 years old, passed away on January 22, 2026, in Beatrice, NE. He was born on January 16, 1927, in Lincoln, NE to Claire and Violet (French) Weekly. He lived his entire life in Lincoln, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1945. He served in the Army and was stationed at Fort Belvoir, VA. He assisted in the layout of Arlington Cemetery.
On May 26, 1947, George married Beverly Ann Rogers at her parents’ house. They raised two children, Georgeann and Michael Alan, and later doted on their two grandsons, Andy and Josh.
One of George and Bev’s greatest achievements was the building of their dream home in which George lived for over 65 years. After retirement, George and Bev traveled. They had an RV where they would go to Texas for the winters. They also loved to go to Colorado to visit Georgeann and Gary where they would stay at their Winter Park home – this was one of their favorite things to do.
George loved golf! As Mike grew old enough, he would have Mike accompany him to “caddy” while George played his regular 18 holes of golf. This was George’s way of teaching Mike the game of golf including proper golf etiquette. Later in life, he and Bev joined the Ashland Country Club where they spent almost every weekend. Along with this George would play every Thursday for Men’s night. It wasn’t unusual for him to play 27-36 holes.
George was a born salesman. Working for many different construction suppliers, he was known as an honest and upright man. In 1975, he and Bev started their own construction company, erecting pole barns and grain bins. He would sell the buildings and Mike would put them up.
After the death of Beverly in 2010, George and family friend Harriet Turner took dance lessons. They enjoyed dancing and would go as often as possible. As their friendship grew, they enjoyed traveling together to two of their favorite places, Nantucket Island and Ridgway Colorado.
In addition to his family, George loved his dogs. This passion was also shared with Georgeann and her love of dogs too.
George is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Georgeann and Gary Steffens of Colorado Springs; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Brenda Weekly of Hickman; grandsons, Andy and Corrin Weekly of Hickman and Josh and Jaime Weekly of Firth along with 6 great grandchildren.
A private family graveside will be held.
So sorry to hear about the death of your father. While in college, 1968, I remember driving in his blue Ford Thunderbird to the Colorado/Nebraska football game…I thought that he was very cool to loan his daughter his beautiful car! Extending my deepest sympathy. Ginny Lindquist
George was our friend and next door neighbor for over 50 years. We shared many “over the fence” chats over the years as well as patio chats sharing snacks and conversations. And an occasional cookout. We have been blessed to call them friends. We’ll miss you George.
We so enjoyed our neighbors George and Harriet. We will miss you George! Condolences to the family. Marilyn Jones & Gene Gladden
