Mavis Lyn Fletcher, 100, passed away on April 15, 2026 in Omaha, Nebraska. She was born in Jamaica, West Indies.

Mavis will be remembered as a kind hearted, God fearing woman, who put her family first. From humble beginnings, she attended and graduated from West Indies College (Northern Caribbean University) in Mandeville, Jamaica. With her husband of over 50 years, she moved to Lincoln, Nebraska in 1963 to attend Union College (Union Adventist University), graduating with a degree in English. Her teaching career which started with the Omaha Public School system included time in elementary, high school and college education, in Nebraska, Maryland, California, and Jamaica.

Mavis converted to the Seventh Day Adventist Church, leading her to attend West Indies College where she met Joseph Emanuel Fletcher.  Her favorite hobby was sewing and she became an accomplished seamstress. Though she became a United States citizen she was proud of her Jamaican heritage and remained in contact with her extended Jamaican family. She had a special bond with her two grandchildren, Mackenzie and Easton.

Mavis is survived by son, Garth (Carol) Fletcher; grandchildren, Mackenzie and Easton; and numerous extended family members.

Mavis was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Fletcher; sons, Franz Fletcher and Wayne Fletcher; daughter, Judy Fletcher.

A private family service will be held at College View Cemetery.

Celebrating the Life of Michael “Big E” Ethridge
April 11, 1962 – April 15, 2026

With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Michael Ethridge, known fondly to all as “Ethridge” or “Big E.” Michael stepped into eternity on April 15, 2026, just days after celebrating his 64th birthday.

To know Michael was to know a man of rare charisma and infectious joy. In his formative years, his handsome features and effortless charm made him a popular figure, capturing hearts and making friends wherever he went. He carried that magnetic energy throughout his life, becoming a pillar of his community—a man who worked hard, laughed loudly, and loved even harder.

Michael was a straight-shooter in the truest sense. He valued honesty above all else and never pulled a punch; he spoke his mind with a frankness that was as refreshing as it was sincere. Yet, behind that straightforward exterior was a heart of pure gold.

An avid fisherman, Michael found his greatest peace on the water. He was a master of the craft, famously known for bringing home the biggest crappie fish in the lake. But true to his nature, he never kept his success to himself—he was a kind and generous soul who didn’t mind sharing his catch or his time with anyone in need.

He leaves behind a legacy of integrity and laughter that will be missed more than words can express. He is survived by his devoted sister, Shelly Ethridge, and his beloved nephew, Josh Glover, who both loved him dearly.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude for the outpouring of condolences and love during this incredibly difficult time. Michael’s absence is felt deeply by his family, his friends, and the community he helped build, but his spirit will remain alive in every sunset over the water and every honest conversation we share.

Bernard Walter “Ben” Maaske peacefully went to be with the Lord in the early hours of April 14, 2026 at his home in Lincoln, NE. Bernard was born on May 22, 1931 to Roy and Anna Maaske in Gosper County, Nebraska. He grew up on a farm, where he got into mischief with the animals and his seven siblings throughout his childhood. Bernard began attending Bertrand High School where he played on the football team and served as senior class vice president. It was here that he met Ruth Marie Holmquist, the love of his life. Ruth’s father nicknamed him “Ben” around this time and the name stuck. Ben was drafted into the Korean War, where he fought at the front lines. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the Army 3rd infantry division and was awarded the Bronze Star with an Oak Leaf Cluster during his service. After returning home, he and Ruth were married on November 25, 1954. This was the beginning of a 71-and-a-half-year marriage. After leaving the Army, Ben attended the University of Nebraska and then joined the Lincoln Police Department, where he assisted in the Starkweather investigation. He spent some time as an insurance adjuster before returning to the career he loved, serving in the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Department doing investigative and polygraph work. He retired from law enforcement as a Detective Sgt. In 1976, Ben and Ruth moved to an acreage just outside of Lincoln so that Ben could see cattle outside of his window, just like when he was younger. After leaving the Sheriff’s Department, Ben worked in security and eventually moved to Bertrand to care for his father-in-law. After this, Ben and Ruth returned to Lincoln, where they lived for over thirty years. Many of these years were spent traveling internationally and throughout the US in their RV.

Ben, or Papa, as he was known to his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, will be remembered for many things, including his taste for chocolate-covered peanut clusters, circus peanuts, and KFC, his love of reading and history, his distaste for card games, and especially for the seemingly endless amount of stories that he collected over his 94 years of life and relished telling to anyone who would listen.

Ben and Ruth were involved in the Lutheran church throughout their marriage, including Christ Lincoln for over thirty years. Ben was also active as a veteran, visiting elementary schools to speak and attending numerous Korean War reunions. He was fiercely proud of his service in both the military and law enforcement. Outside of his family, Ben recalled that some of his most satisfying moments included seeing the faces of the South Korean soldiers and civilians after their liberation and hearing their continued thankfulness when they spoke to him and other veterans at Korean War reunions, as well as witnessing the look on the faces of families who were able to experience closure after he obtained criminal confessions. Ben had a heart for serving others, as well as a strong love for his country, his family, and his God.

Ben is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Anna Maaske; parents-in-law, Ralph and Elsie Holmquist; brothers, Delmar (Alice), Eldred (Darlene), and Darrel (Faye) Maaske; infant sister, Grace Maaske; brothers-in-law, David High, Merwyn Jones, and Bruce and Howard Holmquist; sister-in-law, Linda Maaske; and great-granddaughter, Leonie Palacios.

He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Ruth Maaske of Lincoln; children, Sherry Koenigsman and Kevin (Jackie) Maaske, both of Lincoln, and Krista (Myron) Drent of Indianapolis, IN; 8 grandchildren, Carissa (Brandon) Levering of Cedar Rapids, IA, Kaitlyn (Noe) Palacios of Miami, FL, Kelsey (Sean) Brozek of Gretna, NE, Jessica (Richie) Turner of Bennington, NE, Brent (Svenja) Koenigsman of Lincoln, NE, Adam (Denise) Drent of Riverside, CA, Ethan (Hannah) Drent, and Lindsey (Bennett) Wilson, both of Indianapolis, IN; twenty-one great-grandchildren, Joshua, Moriah, Eva, and Chloe Levering, Fiore and Milan Palacios, Adelaide, Elliott, Afton, Edith, Agnes, and Esther Brozek, Knox and Isla Turner, Isabel and Lincoln Drent, Declan, Darcy, Rosalie, and Ryan Drent, and Magdalena Wilson; two brothers Roland (Virlyn) and Wayne Maaske; two sisters, Margaret High and Mildred Jones; and sisters-in-law, Donna and Shari Holmquist, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Ben was very loved and his family confidently looks forward to seeing him again in the hope of the resurrection.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 1, 2026 at Christ Lincoln, 4325 Sumner St, Lincoln. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the family for further designation.

Aaron Michael Mack passed away on Tuesday, March 24th at the age of 42, following his courageous six year battle with cancer.

Aaron was born on September 19, 1983 in Springfield, Illinois. He was raised in Lincoln, Nebraska where he attended school and graduated from the University of Nebraska Lincoln. He obtained his degree in English and minored in Psychology.

He spent his career writing and applied his talent in a number of different specialties ranging from his work at the Nebraska Department of Economic Development to his time in marketing. In 2019 Aaron was recognized for his outstanding work and was inducted into the Great Navy of the State of Nebraska by the governor.

In 2017 he married Anne (Connealy) Mack, and their numerous travel adventures become another source of great passion. The greatest adventure Aaron experienced was when he and Anne welcomed their son Noah in 2023. He was a devoted father and husband, and the great joy of his life was his son.

Aaron was a musician, reader, writer, cycling enthusiast, and an avid chess player. Everything Aaron did, he did with passion. He learned to play guitar at a young age and music was a source of joy for him throughout his life.

He read voraciously from Proust to Stephen King and didn’t leave the writing at work but kept numerous journals filled with letters to his loved ones.

The year he became interested in cycling, he tackled his first century ride (a 100 mile ride) within a matter of months of taking on the hobby, and completed a bike packing trip over the Cowboy Trail in northern Nebraska.

As was his nature with all his passions, Aaron didn’t just play chess, he studied it and connected with grand masters to help him improve. He played innumerable games with his friends, in person and online.

An avid coffee drinker who spent many of his formative years at the Coffee House, Aaron spent countless hours learning how to make the perfect cup of coffee. His enthusiasm for coffee was only rivaled by his love of beer, and he spent years meticulously learning to brew his own beer and perfecting his hazy IPA recipe.

Aaron shared his many passions through his volunteer work: At the Bike Kitchen he helped rebuild bikes for those who needed them, he brought his home brews to the annual Kegs for the Cure, a brewing fundraiser for cancer, and he volunteered as a companion for patients receiving hospice care, reading to them and writing their stories.

Aaron is survived by his wife, Anne, his son, Noah, his sisters Tori (Eric) Chapman and Annie (Derrick) Vest, and his parents Kathy and Kevin Mack, and multiple nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, and to honor Aaron’s courage, the family requests memorials be made to the April Sampson Cancer Center.

A celebration of Aaron’s life will be held at 2:00pm on March 27. Funeral, burial and a reception will be held at Wyuka Cemetery & Funeral Home.

August 14, 1950 – March 5, 2026

George Stuart Mills Jr. didn’t much care for sitting still. He passed away of natural causes on March 5, 2026, in the Raymond home he kept running with a steady supply of bolts, wires, and sheer determination.

Born in 1950, George was a man of perpetual motion. While his career took him into Lincoln as a “jack-of-all-trades” service technician and diesel mechanic for Linweld, his heart and his weekends remained on the family land. He spent years laboring alongside his father, eventually buying and improving the farm to ensure his parents had a place for retirement. Whether it was a diesel engine or a failing fence line, if it had bolts or wires, George was the expert who could make it run again.

He was a storyteller with a quick joke and a nickname for everyone—whether you knew your nickname or not. While he was a master on the water and the snow as an expert skier, he was perhaps most at home with a cold beer and a captive audience. George was loyal and dutiful to his work and his family to a fault, even if his unapologetically direct nature meant you didn’t always know exactly where you stood with him until the dust settled.
Family and Legacy.

George is survived by his wife, Margaret Mills, and his three sons: Chris, Steve, and Brad. His stories (and his nicknames) live on through his grandchildren: Allison, Geronimo, Evan, Ava, and Liam. He is also survived by his mother, Hallie Mills, and his brothers, Harvey, Steve, and Don. He was preceded in death by his father, George Stuart Mills Sr., and his sister, Dorothy Rippe.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Wyuka Funeral Home, 3600 “O” Street, Lincoln. Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 13, at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 220 Kansas St, Murdock, Nebraska. A lunch will follow the burial at Wabash Cemetery. Memorials to the family for further designation,

Frederick R. Siebrandt was born December 19, 1945, and the youngest of ten children to Frederick H. Siebrandt and Lillie (Tichota) Siebrandt at their home on Copples Ranch by Rosalie, NE and delivered by his grandmother, Elnora Siebrandt. They farmed with horses his first years of life and Lillie did cooking on an old cook stove by burning wood and cobs. Fred began school in a one room country school, walking two miles one way to school and three years later to a one room country school, walking one mile, and two town schools, and graduated in Bancroft, NE before joining the U.S. Army in 1964, and becoming a medic during the Vietnam War.

Fred was in the 7th grade when they got their first T.V. a black/white set. They never had an indoor bathroom or running water until he joined the Army in 1964, having an outhouse for the toilet and carrying their drinking water from the well to the house. He began helping in the 4th grade, by milking the cows by hand. Fred is a life member of The American Legion and held office at Bancroft, all but one year and being the commander for the last 16 years straight, while also being the Cuming County commander for a two-year hitch, until he moved away. He delivered mail for over 30.5 years in Bancroft, NE. Fred was elected and held offices of committeeman, Vice President, and then President of Nebraska. In 2003, Fred was elected and honored for the entire state of NE, as the outstanding rural carrier of the year.

Fred’s children and grandchildren were the biggest love of his lifetime. He also loved the mountains and traveling state side and abroad, also traveling to Poland with 11 other Lutheran members from another Lutheran church in Lincoln to give schooling to young polish children.

One little polish boy, age 5, asked Fred if he would be his grandpa, He said yes, and he stole Fred’s heart. Fred went skydiving in Wisconsin at age 62, and he loves to sing.
