I served under him as a lieutenant and we became good friends. I stayed at his house and we would run the lincoln trails in the morning. Had some good times with him. Had a lot of respect for him

I worked with Barney at the Nebraska Investment Finance Authority (NIFA). We immediately hit it off because of our mutual love for music. We often recommended classic rock YouTube videos to each other. I loved all of his stories. We spoke the last day he was at the office about what it was like to have our adult sons still living at home. He loved his boys and enjoyed talking about them often. That always impressed me about Barney. He will be missed at NIFA and by me. I’m listening to Little Feat in his honor today. RIP Barney.

We attended officer candidate school and got our commissions together. We then were roommates while we attended our officer basic course in Ft. Benning, GA. Since we both loved the outdoors and fishing, we went on a couple of trips to Canada with our packs, fishing gear and a canoe. We spent many hours working on his cabin in Colorado. As we grew older, got married and had children, we grew apart. I truly regret that aspect of our friendship. He was a man with solid core beliefs and he was dedicated to his two boys. Even though I’ve not seen him in some time, I miss him now. RIP brother

Even though we grew apart as we aged, I know that if I ever needed anything, he would have helped me. I also know that he knew that I would do the same for him. Barney was a good man, and I’m confident his boys will be just fine, because they had him as their Father. RIP Brother.
