Gwendolyn (Gwen) J. Hofer (84 yrs) of Lincoln, Nebraska was peacefully called, in the presence of her daughter, to her heavenly home on June 25, 2025. Gwen was born February 21, 1941, in Alliance, Nebraska to Kenneth F and Agnes (Zila) Sonder. She and her family moved to Fremont and then Belden, Nebraska in the early part of her youth; and later to Omaha, Nebraska where she graduated from Omaha Central High School. She attended the Grace Bible Institute with aspirations of becoming a missionary nurse, but the Lord had different plans, and she later transferred to the University of Nebraska-Omaha graduating with a bachelor’s degree in business.
Gwen’s life would be changed forever at a Sunday School church function where she met a handsome young gentleman, Glenn Hofer, who would become her husband on November 23, 1962. They were married for nearly 63 years and made their home in Lincoln, Nebraska. They had a daughter, Denise; and then several years later adopted a son, Craig, to complete their family. She was a homemaker for their home during the children’s earlier years, later she worked outside the home fulfilling her many interests.
Gwen had a passion for imagination, creativity and beauty. She was an artist and part owner of an art gallery displaying her many works of oil, watercolor, pastel paintings; and stained-glass pieces which grace many homes and businesses across the country. She additionally was an extremely talented seamstress creating beautiful, original embroidered quilts and clothing. She had a love for her grandchildren, pets, plants, the outdoors and making her house a welcoming home.
Gwen was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Hofer; son, Craig Hofer; parents, Kenneth and Agnes Sonder; brothers, Dwayne and Kenneth (Dean) Sonder; sister-in-law, Dottie Sonder; sister, Francis Sonder; and brother-in-law, John Westbrook.
