Herbert “Herb” F. Schroeder, 83, passed away on January 26, 2026 in Minneapolis, MN. He was born May 7, 1942 in Lincoln, NE to Fred and Fern Schroeder.
Herb was an easy-going, happy man who lived life with a calm, steady presence and a generous heart. Known for his quiet nature and go-with-the-flow attitude, Herb was the kind of person people felt comfortable around; kind, genuine, and always willing to be there when it mattered.
Herb’s kindness and generosity defined him, especially in the love and support he gave to his daughter, Cheri. Being there for her was one of the things he cared about most, and it showed in countless everyday moments that spoke louder than words ever could.
One of Herb’s proudest accomplishments was earning his GED later in life, after facing challenges in his younger years. It was a reflection of his quiet determination and perseverance; proof that he never gave up on himself.
In his younger years, Herb was more social and known for his sense of humor. He loved to make people laugh and tell stories; stories that often required a fact-check with his mom, but were always told with a twinkle in his eye. As the years went on, he became more reserved, a man of few words, but his warmth never faded.
Herb was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Faribault, Minnesota, and belonged to several organizations, including the NRA, the Legion Club, and the Masons. He found joy in simple pleasures, especially hunting, fishing, and spending time on the golf course.
Herb is survived by his daughter, Cheri Thomas; sister, Gloria Steinmeyer; brother-in-law, Don Steinmeyer; and grandsons, Brandon and Bryson Thomas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, E. Fern Schroeder (Pardee) and Frederick Schroeder; wife, Linda Joyce Schroeder; brother, Dwain Jones; and sister-in-law, Jackie Jones.
Herb will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his generosity, and the quiet way he showed his love. His presence will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
