Kenneth “Ken” R. Lamphear, 89, passed away on July 30, 2025, in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was born March 13, 1936, in Plattsmouth, Nebraska, to John Sr. and Ida (McFarland) Lamphear. Ken was united in marriage to Janice “Jan” A. Richters on March 27, 1954, in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Ken was known for his quick wit, easygoing nature, and the genuine way he connected with others. He made friends wherever he went and carried a positive outlook on life that uplifted those around him. A devoted family man, Ken passed on his deep love of music to those he loved, creating lasting memories through shared songs and laughter. His warmth, humor, and unwavering support will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He dedicated 44 years of his life to Burlington Northern Railroad, where he took great pride in his work and the lasting friendships he built along the way. His time with the railroad wasn’t just a career, it was a source of meaningful memories, camaraderie, and personal accomplishment.
Ken was a man of faith who found spiritual connection in the beauty of the natural world. Though he did not belong to an organized church, he believed deeply and often said that nature was his church; a place where he felt closest to God and at peace.
In his free time, Ken loved being outdoors, whether it was casting a line while fishing, tending to his garden, or simply enjoying the quiet beauty of nature. He also spent countless hours in his shop, where he had a knack for tinkering, inventing, and problem-solving. Whether fixing something broken or building something new, Ken approached each project with creativity and curiosity.
What his family loved most about Ken was his sharp sense of humor, his independent spirit, and his deeply caring heart. Ken’s family will always smile when remembering his endearing quirks; especially his frugal ways and his lighthearted resistance to change, even the smallest of things.
Ken is survived by his daughters, Lori (Rudi) Rosenfeld of Lincoln; Kerri (Ray) Lazuk of Jefferson City, Montana; Kristi Lamphear of Lincoln; and Jodi Gaines of Parker, Colorado; brother, George Lamphear; 8 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren and numerous family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janice Lamphear; brother, John Lamphear Jr., and sisters, Betty Richards and Jacqueline Jones.
