Laurel C. Newlon

Laurel Christine Newlon peacefully passed away in the late afternoon on July 12, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a family who loved her deeply.

Laurel was born Laurel Christine Burns on February 3, 1957, in Nebraska City, Nebraska, to Thomas and Darlene “Glendora” Burns. She was the youngest of three children and grew up on a small family farm in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. Her childhood was filled with simple joys, and one of her fondest companions was her beloved horse, Nay Nay, whom she loved dearly.

In her early twenties, Laurel married James Graham, and together they welcomed two beautiful daughters into the world. Although their marriage eventually ended in divorce, Laurel faced the challenges of single motherhood with remarkable strength, determination, and unwavering devotion to her girls. Later, she found love again with Tony Newlon, who became her devoted husband and lifelong partner.

Family was the center of Laurel’s world. She was a loving wife, a dedicated mother, and an incredibly proud grandmother and great-grandmother. She treasured every opportunity to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating memories that will be held close in their hearts forever. Her love for her family was unconditional, and she always made those around her feel cared for and welcomed.

One of Laurel’s greatest passions was the game of pool. Beginning in her twenties, she joined a local pool league where she not only developed her skills but also formed many lifelong friendships. Over the years, she earned numerous trophies and accolades, but even more importantly, she found a community that brought her joy, laughter, and companionship. Whether competing in tournaments or simply enjoying the camaraderie of friends, the pool hall became one of her favorite places to be.

Laurel was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Darlene “Glendora” Burns; her brother, Robert Burns; and her nephew, Clay Burns, whom she lovingly helped name.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her beloved husband, Tony Newlon; her sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Michael Spidel; her daughters, Jamie Graham and her husband, Moises Ramirez, and Amanda Garcia; her treasured grandchildren, Emelia Graham, Aubre Graham, Alivia Graham, Madilynn Graham, Julian Graham, Kyleigh Garcia, and Elliot Garcia; four great-grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing her.

Laurel will be remembered for her caring heart, her resilient spirit, her love of family, and the many friendships she cultivated throughout her life. Her kindness, laughter, and unwavering love will be deeply missed, but her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Funeral services will be held at Wyuka Funeral Home, 3600 “O” street, Lincoln, Nebraska, on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at 10:00 AM.

Memorials may be made to the family for further designation.
