Alvina Zena (Clyde) Avery

Alvina Zena Avery passed away on April 3, 2019 at Ambassador Health, Lincoln, Nebraska. She was born in McGrew, Nebraska, on May 11, 1928 to Cyrus Ellsworth Clyde and Zena (Evans) Clyde. Alvina lived in several locations in Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota, Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado. She graduated from high school after her Junior year and began teaching in country schools at the age of 16. She taught elementary school for many years.

Alvina married Arthur M Avery on October 19, 1947 in Savage, Montana. After being married nearly 60 years, Art preceded her in death in 2007. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers Ellsworth Clyde and an unnamed brother; sisters Velma Gray and Wilma June Swanson; sons William Franklin Avery and Lee Francis Avery; son-in-law Robert Kettleson; brothers-in-law Larry Page, Eldon (“Bud”) Swanson, and Marion Mason. In addition, she was preceded in death by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mary Stevens Hines (Clate Stevens) (Sanford Hines), John (Eva) (Florence) Avery, Olive “Edith” (Joseph) Hart, Elizabeth McKinney Cerletti (Raymond “Jake” McKinney) (Louis Cerletti). She is also survived by her children: Beverley Kettleson (Marty Holstein, special friend) of Lincoln, Nebraska; Raymond Avery of Elbert, Colorado; Charlene (William) Pipkin of Orem, Utah; Alvin Avery (Amber Schuppan, special friend) of Grand Island, Nebraska; and Gerald (JoAnn) Avery of Fort Worth, Texas. She is also survived by her sister, Irene Mason of Gothenburg, Nebraska; grandchildren Eileen Crosby (Ron Tolliver, special friend), Jerad (Leila) Avery, Kathleen (Michael) Boyd, Miranda (Robert) Peltier, Donald (Amy) Smith, Nathan (Melissa) Avery, Sarah (Jon) Moyer, Levi (Tuwanna) Pipkin, Dr. Eric (Maran) Avery, Victoria Avery (Brian Hull), Dawn Avery (Tiiffani Petty), Andrea M. (Craig) Vieck, Andrea K. (Benjamin) Robles, Rachel Pipkin (Cameron Kidman, special friend), and Daniel (Rebecca) Pipkin, numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 In addition to her family, she will be missed by her many friends, including those she associated with in the ten years that she lived at Ambassador Health Lincoln.

Funeral services will be held at 10 A.M. on Friday, April 12th at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 212 West 22nd Street, Grand Island, Nebraska. Visitation 9 – 9:45 A.M. at the church. Interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Lynch, Nebraska about 5 P.M. that day. A memorial service will also be held at Ambassador Health, 4405 Normal Blvd., Lincoln, Nebraska, at 7 P.M. on April 17, 2019.

 Memorials may be given to the family for future designation.
