Diane Marie Spradling

Diane Marie Spradling, 70, of Lincoln, NE passed away on October 9, 2022, in Lincoln.

Born on March 26, 1952 in Touhy Nebraska to Dennis and Donna (Armitage) Ohnoutka. Diane attended Touhy grade school, graduating from Wahoo Bishop Neumann High School. Diane married Steven Spradling in Touhy on August 14th, 1971. After living in Wahoo and Valparaiso, the couple settled in Lincoln. Diane found her true calling as a preschool teacher at Jack & Jill preschool followed by a paraprofessional at Riley Elementary working with special needs preschool children. After her years of working in child development, Diane was employed by Continental Western Insurance for 20 years.  She loved volunteering her time delivering Meals on Wheels with her work bestie Nancy Crownover.

True to her early profession, and personality, Diane enjoyed watching her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews participate in a multitude of school activities as they grew, including sports, theater, music and more. She loved meeting families throughout these events and quickly became an extended mother and grandmother to them all.  Diane enjoyed cooking for her family, her flower gardens, sitting in the sun with her favorite beverage and spending quality time with her close friends, Terri Jonas and Kathy Givens. Diane and Steve shared many memories with Linda and Stan Berlowitz on their traveling adventures.

Diane is survived by her husband of 51 years, her two children, Ami (Tony) Marx of Lincoln, and Richard (Cassie) Spradling, of Omaha; Four grandchildren, Andrew, AJ and Ashton Heffelfinger, Henry Spradling, Step Grandson Tyler Marx; Siblings – David Ohnoutka, Linda (Stan) Berlowitz and Mick (Karen) Ohnoutka all of Lincoln. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

A celebration of life service will take place 11:00 a.m., October 29, 2022, at Wyuka Funeral Home, Lincoln. Rosary begins at 10:00 a.m. Reception and interment to follow services. Memorials may be directed to the family for further designation.

    I am so sorry to hear of Diane’s passing. I was one of the nurses who helped her along her journey, and I just so enjoyed her. She had such a strong love for her family. I hope you all can find peace and comfort in the warm memories you share. May the peace of our Lord be with you all.

  6. Diane was one of the sweetest preschool teachers ever! I worked at Jack and Jill Preschool for many years with her and along with all the little ones, she made teaching there so much fun. Always so bubbly and energetic, she was one of a kind. We lost touch over the years but I know she went on to make other children feel special and loved. It was a gift she had. She was that special. My deepest condolences to the family, whom she spoke of often and with pride. May you find strength and peace in knowing all the lives she touched in truly beautiful ways.
