Erskin Nebraska Flanagan, Sr.

March 21, 1948 – October 29, 2026

Erskin Nebraska Flanagan, Sr., affectionately known as “Pete Rabbit” or simply “Pete,” passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at the age of 78.

Pete was born on March 21, 1948, in Greenwood, Mississippi, to Juanita Holloway. He was raised by his maternal grandparents, lovingly known as Daddy Frank and Momma Georgia, alongside his aunts and uncles. It was Daddy Frank who gave him the nickname “Pete Rabbit,” a name that would stay with him throughout his life and become how most people knew him.

Pete attended Threadgill High School and, following graduation, proudly enlisted in the United States Army. He honorably served his country from 1968 to 1971.

In 1972, Pete married his high school sweetheart, Carol Lang. Together, they raised five children and shared more than 30 years of marriage. Although their marriage eventually ended, they maintained a friendly and amicable relationship.

In 1974, at the encouragement of his aunt, Ollie “Squeaky” Weaver, Pete traveled to Lincoln, Nebraska, for a temporary work opportunity. What began as a short-term move became a permanent home when he relocated his family to Lincoln. A hardworking and dedicated man, Pete held several positions throughout his life, including working as a bus driver and for the railroad. He later became the owner of a flooring company, a business he operated until his retirement.

Pete was fortunate to find love again with Sonya King, whom he married in January 2014. Their marriage brought him tremendous happiness, and the two shared a strong and loving bond. They cherished their time together and genuinely enjoyed one another’s company.

Pete had a larger-than-life personality and a wonderful sense of humor. His outgoing nature, infectious laughter, and ability to make others feel welcome naturally drew people to him. He enjoyed watching westerns, football, and just about any sporting event on television. He was also an enthusiastic fan of horror movies. Pete appreciated life’s simple pleasures, especially waking up to his morning coffee and a cigarette. Known for his sweet tooth, he rarely turned down cookies, candy, cake, or pie. If it was sweet, Pete was sure to enjoy it.

Above all, Pete will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and the lasting impression he made on those fortunate enough to know him. His presence brought joy to many, and the memories he created with family and friends will be treasured for years to come.

Pete was preceded in death by his brother, Wayne Harris, Sr.; his mother, Juanita Holloway; and his grandparents.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Sonya; his five children, Tracy Moore, Johnetta Lang, Terry Lang, Juanita Flanagan, and Erskin Flanagan, Jr.; his stepchildren, George Weaver, Jordan Weaver, LaReisha Weaver, and Dan King; along with a host of grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 PM, on Monday November 9, 2026, at Wyuka Cemetery in Lincoln, Nebraska. Pete will be laid to rest at Omaha National Cemetery on November 10, 2026, at 10 AM.
