Karl Arthur Kaufman, age 94 of Lincoln, Nebraska died on September 9, 2011, in Lincoln.  He was born on September 4, 1917 in Cozad, Nebraska to John Henry and Rosina Lora (Billeter) Kaufman.  On May 31, 1939, he married Marjorie Ethel Clark in Norton, Kansas.  They had six children;  Karla Sue, Nancy Belle, John Stephen, Thomas James, Cynthia Lee, and David Karl.  They made their first home in California where he worked as a welder on the Liberty Ships.  They had two girls while in California, and the family moved back to Nebraska when he entered the Army.  They lived in Cozad for a few years, then homesteaded in Cody, Wyoming and later again in Rupert, Idaho.  In 1965, they moved to Blaine, Washington where Karl worked in the shipyards as a welder.  He was a member of a plywood cooperative that manufactured custom plywood.  In his retirement, he enjoyed working in the forest, beach combing and rock hounding.  In 1992, they moved back to Cozad to be near their families.  Karl also enjoyed the senior citizen center, growing walnut trees, gardening, crafts, and working at a mammoth fossil dig.  Karl and Marjorie were devoted Christians who helped build churches in Cozad, Rupert, and Bellingham, Washington.  He was an elder in the Christian Church for many years.  Karl also was a member of Gideons International.

Karl was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 72 years, Marjorie, on March 10, 2011; his brother Harold Kaufman, and three sisters, Evelyn Cogswell, Marguerite Gronewald, and Patricia Block.  He is survived by his sister Betty McPheeters of Gothenburg and many nieces and nephews.  He will be lovingly missed by his six children; daughters and sons-in-law:   Karla and Jerry Judt of Lincoln,  Nancy and Lester Morfin of  Troy, Idaho,  Cynthia and Doug Murray of  Bellingham, Washington;  Sons and daughters-in-law:  John and Janann Kaufman of Anchorage, Alaska,  Tom and Shirley Kaufman of Lincoln, David and Lonnie Kaufman of Carnation, Washington;  14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren and their families.

Services will be held at Wyuka Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at 2:00 P.M.   Interment will be at Wyuka Cemetery.

Memorials may be left for habitat for humanity.
