Larry Geiger

Laurence (Larry) Clair Geiger
May 4, 1945 – April 24, 2024

Larry Clair Geiger was born in Seward Nebraska on May 4, 1945, to Florian and Caroline Geiger. He graduated from Aquinas High School in David City, NE and attended the University of Nebraska and Lincoln School of Commerce. In 1966, he was drafted into the US Army and served as a Military Policeman until his honorable discharge in 1968. On August 25, 1968, he married Virginia Mastera. They had three children: Gretchen, Eric and Molly. Larry began his career at First MidAmerica Brokerage firm. In 1982, he began a 29-year career as Director of Licensing at Crete Carrier Corporation. He retired from there in 2011.

Larry will best be remembered for his fierce love for his family. He was happiest when he had everyone gathered together at his house. Everyone knew that if they needed something that they could call him, and he would jump in to help. Larry always looked forward to being with friends for conversation over a meal or a cup of coffee. He enjoyed listening to their stories as well as telling some of his own. But if you knew Larry at all, you are aware that the greatest joy in his life was his grandchildren. He could brag about them for hours if you would let him and tear up over the simplest of their accomplishments.

Larry is survived by his wife, Virginia; his children and spouses, Gretchen (Kevin) Baker, Eric (Kira) Geiger and Molly (Brett) Schnabel; 9 grandchildren, Grant Baker, Owen Baker, Claire Baker, Trenton Geiger, Brielle Geiger, Clayton Geiger, Regan Schnabel, Drew Schnabel, and Gia Schnabel; his sisters, Sister Marilyn Geiger O.S.F, Susan (Greg) Hraban, and Linda (Rick) Lau.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 PM, Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at First Plymouth Church, 2000 D Street, Lincoln, NE 68502.

Memorials to the family for future charitable donation.

  2. Dear Virginia and family, I’ll always remember Larry for his passion for Nebraska Football. We talked many times on the seasons gone by from the 1960’s to the championship years in the 90’s. He could talk for hours about Nebraska Athletics, men and women. Virginia and I have a special bond because of our time together at Lincoln Northeast and Southwest High Schools that I will always treasure. Larry was loved by many and will be missed. RIP my friend ❤️

  6. I worked with Larry at Crete for 25 years and will forever remember his sense of humor. When I first started I would bounce from one department to another wherever needed. He ran into me in between departments and told me that Mr Acklie (Owner) wanted me to sweep the sidewalks and then left. I stood still for a moment and contemplated what he said and realized he was pulling my leg🙄 Thank you Larry for making a stressful job light hearted❤️

  7. I am so sorry to hear about Larry’s passing. I feel like I’ve know the Geiger family, including Carrie and Florian, as long as I’ve known the Ward family. They were all great friends and I know if Bill and his parents were here, their sadness would equal mine.

  19. I worked with Larry for many years at Crete Carrier. He is still missed by those of us who remember his kindness and great sense of humor. He lightened every day at work. I was sad when he retired because his presence was large. I do hope his retirement years were the best for him and his family. May his family seek solace in the many wonderful comments and memories we all have. Thanks for the memories Larry! Cathy Wilken

  20. Virginia and Family – We were so very sorry to hear about Larry’s passing. Larry was a valued member of the Crete Carrier Family for over 29 years and a good friend to all of his co-workers. Larry did a great job taking care of our drivers all across the country as he worked with their licensing and permit issues. Larry’s love of the “Huskers” was another thing we both shared. His knowledge of the Team and the passion for their success was a topic we frequently discussed. Above all else, Larry was a “Good Guy” and someone we will all miss. I am sorry to miss the service as I will be out of town.
