Muriel L. Glathar

GlatharMuriel Lucile Glathar, 92, died March 27th, 2014, in hospice after a valiant struggle with cancer.  She was born December 19, 1921 in Julian Ne.  to Archibald and Winifred (Castleman) Cook.  She was the loving matriarch of the family, with a warm heart, a kind word, and an open ear to everyone she met.

Homemaker, loving wife, mother and grandmother, Muriel truly excelled in her role as “Grandma”, spending many hours engaged in playing games and cards with her grandchildren throughout her life.   On August 14, 1941, in Plattsmouth Ne. she was married to Dale Glathar.  At that time, Dale was serving in the military; he spent 3 years overseas after their marriage.  They enjoyed 47 years of marriage before Dale’s passing in 1988.   As members of the “Greatest Generation” Muriel and Dale shared similar values of faithful commitment, loyalty to country, work ethic, financial prudence and personal responsibility.  They raised four children, passing many of their beliefs and values on to their children.

Muriel is survived by three children Bart (Elizabeth) Glathar, Marsha (Larry) Newman, Kurt (Kimberly) Glathar, and daughter-in-law Judy Glathar — Grandchildren Jason Glathar, Doug Glathar, Vicki Glathar, Mitchell Glathar, Brett (Samantha) McGovern, Amanda Keinholz, Ben (Julie) Glathar, Ann (David) Clark, Laura Glathar, Daniel Glathar, Natalie Fleming, Emily Fleming, Terri Craft, Rhett Sturm, and twelve great grandchildren.  Muriel was preceded in death by husband Dale and son Gary.

Cremation no visitation.  Memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday April 12, at Wyuka Funeral Home, 3600 “O” St. Lincoln Ne.   There is a meal to follow immediately after the Celebration of Life Service.  Send Memorials to Tabitha Hospice or American Diabetes Assoc.  Memorials left at the service will be forwarded to these two organizations.

  2. Although we haven’t seen Aunt Muriel for many years, our thoughts have been with her as she fought her final fight. Our sincere condoleances to her children and grandchildren, most of whom we have not had the pleasure of meeting.

  4. My sympathies to Muriel’s family. I was with Muriel on her first day of becoming part of the Tabitha family. She will be forever in my heart. I am a better nurse for having the privilege to care for her. What an amazing family she has!
