Nadezhda Marchenko Solkan

Nadezhda Marchenko Solkan, born August 20, 1937 in Ukraine to Aleksey and Efrosenia Marchenko; seventh child of thirteen. As a teenager, Nadezha moved in with her sister Anna to the city of Shostka. Later, with a group of Christian youth, she moved to Estonia, where she worked in a pharmacy.

In 1966, Nadezhda moved to the city of Kaliningrad where she was an active church member, and that is where she and Vitaly Solkan met. In June of 1967 they got married and moved to Moldova where Vitaly was from. In 1968 they had their first daughter Yesfir and in 1971 their second daughter Maria was born.

In 1972 the family moved back to Estonia where they had 7 more children, two of which did not survive, but the other five are Paul, Vera, Peter, Angela, and Vladimir. Nadezhda worked for 17 years at the local meat production line.

In 1989, Nadezhda and her family immigrated for permanent residence to the United States, Lincoln Nebraska where she lived through her last day.

In May of 2021, Nadezhda lost her husband of 54 years. On August 20th, it was her 84th birthday and the family got together to celebrate. Her children noticed that she had been getting much weaker.

In the beginning of September, Nadezhda was admitted to the hospital with an infection. A month later, she was admitted back into the hospital and her health never got better. On October 22nd, she came home from the hospital. On November 29th at 10:20 p.m., in complete peace, Nadezhda went home to be with the Lord.

Nadezhda Solkan is survived by her seven children and their families: Yesfir and her son, Kareem; Maria, her husband Igor, their children Diana, her husband Connor, Kristina and Anna; Paul, his wife Natalya, their children Victoria, Daniel, and Kristina; Vera, her husband Dmitri, their children Joseph and Phillip; Peter, his children Justyce and Emily; Anzhela, Martrell Brown, their children Elijah, TatiYana, and Maloniya; Vladimir, and his daughter Sofia.

Nadezhda Solkan’s memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 3, 2021 at First Slavic Baptist Church, 3801 La Salle St. Lincoln, Nebraska.
