Robert Harvey Hogg

Robert Harvey Hogg (Bob), age 82, of Lincoln died October 31, 2022.

He was born January 5, 1940, in North Platte, Nebraska, son of George Paxton Hogg and Dorlis Evelyn Osborn Hogg. He graduated from Paxton High School in 1958. He served in the United States Air Force and graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, remaining a proud Husker his entire life.

On August 20, 1966, Bob married Carolyn Ann Kuthe in Euclid, Ohio and they were married for 56 years. In that time, he worked as an accountant, realtor, and other jobs in Minnesota, North Dakota, and Nebraska, serving as Keith County Commissioner in the 1980s, and later retiring from Nebraska Department of Roads.

Bob was an avid and skilled model railroader since his youth, creating impressive layouts in the landscape of the 1950s Plains, as western Nebraska was a place he deeply loved. He was pleased to donate his layout to the Beatrice Area Railroad Enthusiasts. He loved to read, garden, eat ice cream, and share jokes and stories with his dry delivery.  He enjoyed his three grandchildren immensely.

Preceding him in death were his parents and sisters Charlotte Ann Hogg and E. Yvonne Chrisp. Survivors include his wife Carolyn of Lincoln, his children James Edward Hogg and wife Julie (Neuroth) of Lincoln and Charlotte Ann Hogg and husband Chris Garland of Fort Worth, Texas, as well three grandchildren: Emily Hogg, Tyler Hogg, and Dean Garland.

Services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 12, at Friedens Lutheran Church, 540 D Street, Lincoln. Burial will be at Wyuka Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, November 11, at Wyuka Funeral Home, 3600 “O” Street, Lincoln.  Memorials can be directed to the Paxton Public Library or Friedens Lutheran Church.

  5. My deepest sympathies to all of the family. He was a good guy, funny and smart. He knew so much about Paxton and the folks that lived there. I used to love going to his house in Paxton and playing around with his model railroad. I was always amazed at the realism of the railroad he created.
    Classmates and friends forever.

  6. I have known ‘Robert’ since way back when—- his name was Harvey, in 1958. I met him for the first time at our first day of High School – -good on Paxton High School. I don’t know when he started using his first name, but somewhere between then and now. 1958 and 2022 is a long time and for many of these years I didn’t keep track of him and his developing family. However, a few years ago some of our classmates started communicating occasionally by email, texting, etc. and in this way, we got back together. My wife,Susan, and I attended his and Carolyn’s 50th anniversary several years ago and he, Louise Snyder (Lammers) and I would meet at the Cracker Barrell for coffee every fall when Louise came to Nebraska to visit her daughter and family. I always admired Robert. He was a good man. He will be missed by all who knew him and especially his loving family. May God bless you all.

  9. My sincere sympathy to Bob’s family. I was in Lincoln in Sept and visited with him before going to visit Carolyn. He told me he was not well. Since their move to Lincoln, whenever I got down there, they would go to dinner with me. We always had good discussions on about any topic. I worked with Carolyn in the Sidney HHS. Thoughts and prayers be with you.

  12. I am so sorry for your loss. I was one of Robert’s classmates. I knew him as Harvey and I still had a hard time calling him Robert! Their kids and my kids were friends in high school when Hoggs moved back to Paxton for a few years. I drove back to Nebraska from Indiana many times and I always had lunch in Lincoln on my way to Omaha with Keith and Robert. I sure will miss those lunches! Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
