Roger Floyd Kaltenberger
February 24, 1936 – September 12, 2024
In loving memory of our husband, dad, grandpa and great grandpa, who lived a long, blessed life with his time spent making memories with his family, enjoying sports, and traveling the world.
Roger was born and raised in Lincoln, NE, graduating from Teacher’s College High School, where he was a star athlete in both basketball and track. After graduating, he served in the Nebraska Air Guard and then enjoyed a long career with Burlington Northern Railroad, where he retired in 1998.
Throughout his life, he enjoyed playing several sports, including 20 years of fast pitch softball at Sherman Field, receiving multiple accolades including induction in the Nebraska Softball Hall of Fame. He also ran 15 marathons all the way from Lincoln to California and even Hawaii. He was a regular sight for many years running around Lincoln!
Following his retirement, he and his wife Patricia moved to Marana, AZ, where he continued his love of running through the neighboring hills and also took up a new-found love for the sport of golf! He enjoyed many years of golfing at Heritage Highlands and around the country with his son, Burke.
Most memorable of all, Roger lived his life loving his family. He relished being a Grandpa and “Great Gramps”. He and Patricia loved traveling with their grandchildren. Later in life, once blessed with great grandchildren, he enjoyed lovingly playing with them, listening to their stories, and just spending time with them.
Roger passed away on September 12, 2024, after a courageous fight battling cancer for the last years of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents Andrew and Amelia, his sister Elsie, and brother Stanley. He leaves behind his wife Patricia, who was at his side for 64 years, his son Burke (Sanae Hoshino), his daughter Deborah Barger (Bill), granddaughters Melissa Barger (Steve Diamond), and Allison Hoover (Ben), and 4 great grandchildren Kai and Ayla Diamond, and William and Madelynn Hoover. He is also survived by his brother Andy Kaltenberger (Hazel), sisters-in-law Kay Stoddard (Ron), Sue Caldwell, Leona Kaltenberger, and many nieces and nephews.
He will be greatly missed.
Services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, September 23, 2024, at Wyuka Funeral Home and Cemetery, 3600 O Street, Lincoln, NE. Memorials may be donated to ZERO Prostate Cancer.

Pat – I’m thinking about you during this time of loss. It’s been such a long time since I’ve seen you. It sounds like these years in Arizona have been filled with joyful memories of times with family. May the hope of the resurrection bring you comfort and peace.
We always enjoyed the few times we were able to spend with Roger. We found him to always be smiling and cheerful. He loved his family very much and will be greatly missed by many.
