Sharon Kay Green Michalsen

Sharon Kay Green Michalsen, 74 passed away August 3,2019 at home surrounded by her loving family. Born to Wayne and Katheen Green on April 19, 1945 in Monterey California. She was the eldest of the couples three daughters. After Wayne was hospitalized during WW2, Katheen drove Sharon and herself back to Cordova Nebraska from California, in an infamous car that only went into first gear. When Wayne was released from the service, they moved to Lincoln. Sisters Barb and Pam were born in 1949 and 1955 respectively. Sharon was Baptized in 1953 in the Methodist church in Lincoln. Legend has it that Wayne worked the night shift at Goodyear, and Sharon and Barb were to be silent while he slept during the day.

She attended and graduated from Burwell High School, and graduated from the University of Nebraska with a teaching degree. In the middle, she found time to have Debora and Robert, let’s just say sometime in the 60s, wink wink. She interviewed and accepted her first teaching job at Riley Elementary School in 1974. She taught many different grades, and held many different titles until ultimately retiring in June of 2004, after 30 years in the same building. Sharon and Rick met and married on August 29, 1975. Their union joined Debby, Robby and Kelly as a family, and they were blessed with Jaclyn in 1978.

Sharon loved traveling and her family, and they took trips both near and far. Their adventures in Hawaii and New Mexico highlighted some of their time together. More frequently, though, midwest travel for soccer and dance was where Sharon could be found. Out of the trips she took in her lifetime one of the trips she was always excited for was Fort Robinson. She always enjoyed spending time with the family that could make it that year.

Sharon was a loving wife, wonderful mother, the most supportive Grandma and an even more special sister and Aunt. Even when her health began to fail, Sharon went to every birthday party, soccer game, dance competition, and gymnastics meet that she could go to….and rumor has it, performance was greater at the events she attended.

Surviving family members include, Spouse and love of her life, Rick. Daughter Debora and Sammy Luci, and their children Benjamin, Barrett and Emma. Son Robert and Sara Nicholson, and their children Tia, Will and Jemma. Son Kelly and his son Ethan. Daughter Jaclyn and Jon Panipinto, and their children Olivia and Audrey. Sisters Pam Wagner and husband Craig, and Barb Addison. Sharon was also blessed with many special nieces, nephews and their children. Although she left us way to soon, we are thankful for the time that we had and will cherish her forever.

Celebration of Life: 11:00 AM Friday, August 9, 2019 at Wyuka Funeral Home, 3600 ‘O’ Street.

In lieu of flowers, please bring school supplies to donate to Riley School in Sharon’s name.

  8. Sharon was a delight to have as a friend. We feel lucky to have known her well for many, many years and to have had lunch with her, Rick and Olivia on Friday, July 19th.
She was a devoted teacher of her own family, her dear grandchildren and many, many other young minds in Lincoln, NE.
She was also a rockin’ canoer of the Niobrara River. We have memories of those wonderful trips as well as many other adventures to keep with us until we see her again.
