Warren H. Spencer, 82, of Waverly, died May 3, 2025. He was born September 23, 1942, in Ogallala, NE, to Wanda and Leman Spencer. Warren graduated from Ogallala High School and attended the University of Nebraska, majoring in journalism. He married Fern Seaton on June 29, 1969. A prolific writer, Warren’s articles appeared in several national publications. He served as an associate editor of NebraskaLand magazine.
Warren was a longtime member of the Nebraska Army National Guard and was named an Ak-Sar-Ben Citizen Soldier of the Year in 1982. He was active in Kiwanis, earning 25 years of perfect attendance. He served as president of Lincoln Center Kiwanis and was a member of the Nebraska/Iowa Foundation board. He especially enjoyed participating in Lincoln Center’s golf league. He was also a member of Waverly First United Methodist Church.
Warren was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Luanne Geisert; and special friends, Ted Nefzger, Terry Claus, and Larry Young – a foursome once again. He is survived by his wife, Fern; nephews, Jeff Geisert of Lincoln, NE, Mark Geisert of Ft. Worth, TX, and Greg Geisert of Newport News, VA; Godchildren, Lisa Anderson and Tim Donner; and special friends, Brian Baxter, Bill and Rita Overton, and Carolyn Donner (the late Dennis Donner), all of Lincoln, NE. Warren had several beloved cats over the years with Phred and Boomer among his favorites.
Cremation is planned, with private inurnment. Memorials may be directed to the Capital Humane Society HERE or the Food Bank of Lincoln HERE .
Warren was a great person with a sharp wit. He kept that gift of story telling, entertaining Patty and me when we visited him in hospice. The only person I am aware of that served two terms as president of Lincoln Center Kiwanis; the downtown club.
Fern and Warren, along with Ted and Pat Nefzger hosted a group of our friends at dinners held frequently at each of their homes. Wonderful hosts!
Patty and I miss Warren but trust there are great parties and golfing adventures where he is now. Fern … we are so sorry for your loss.

Fern, I was truly saddened to learn of Warren’s passing. It has been years since I have seen either of you, but you are both in my thoughts almost daily thanks to an amazing photo Warren took of my parents (Allen & Elsie Bennett) in Colorado. The photo was always a favorite of theirs and sits to this day in my house where I can see them enjoying a day feeling the warmth of the sun in nature, smiles on their faces echo the joy in their hearts. My thoughts return to Warren in Ogallala. My folks lived on W. 3rd St. His folks lived 2 houses north of us on B St. Warren and my brother Bob were great friends! It was a bittersweet moment to read of his passing. May his family cherish every loving memory…
