Donald L. Hill

Donald L. Hill age 78 of Gretna, Nebraska (formerly of Lincoln) died on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 in Papillion, Nebraska after several years of poor health.  He was born on September 5, 1934 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Henry and Marie (Niederhaus) Hill.  He was proud of his German-Russian heritage and grew up in the South Bottoms and later North Bottoms.  He worked for Burlington Railroad for 12 years.  Don became interested in the bicycle business and in 1970 he started the Lincoln Schwinn Cyclery located at 33 and Pioneers Boulevard in Lincoln in which he operated with his family until 1993. He had a number of other business interests in Lincoln. In retirement he still managed the bicycle department at Walmart in Omaha. Don was a big fan of  “Big Red Football” since his “knot hole ticket days.” He was a faithful member of Indian Hills Community Church and loved the Prime Time Sunday School Class, he also loved traveling, gardening, and family activities.

Donald is survived by his wife of 59 years Mary Ann (Van Gent) of Gretna; daughters, Debbie and Don Barry of Omaha; Julie and Mark Zimmerman of Gretna; sons, David and Sherry Hill of Lincoln; Daniel and Kendra Hill of Omaha; 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; sister, Sandra and Henry Schmidt of Denton.

The visitation will be held on Friday, September 21, 2012 from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with family receiving friends from 6:0o P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Wyuka Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2102 at 10:00 A.M. at Indian Hill Community Church; 1000 S. 84th Street, Lincoln with Pastor Eddie Masters officiating.

Burial will be in Wyuka Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to Indian Hills Community Church or the Arthritis Foundation.

    Sorry for your loss, but know Don is now at peace, and no more suffering. He will be missed by many, as he was loved by all that knew him. I will remember the good times we had at usps contractor picnics and get togethers with several friends. The times we were in Texas during the winter months…”THANK YOU, DON” for your kindness and advice you gave me, that will always be remembered !! Now God has taken you to be by his side, and know your watching down on your loved ones, now you can “REST IN PEACE”
