Jimmie L. Channel, 70, of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away on June 11, at his home.

Jimmie was born September 3, 1951, in Lodgepole, NE to Josie (Channel) Washburn and Alva ‘Dutch’ Channel. He was 1 of 8 children born from this union of marriage. He attended high school at Lincoln High. Following high school, Jimmie worked at a gas station for a short time and then sold mobile homes. Later, Jimmie was employed as a real estate agent in his early twenties and was successful for many years. He held many awards for top agent of the company. He was later employed by Teledyne/Isco company for a few years until it became difficult to do the labor-intensive work with disabilities and the encounter with cancer (Waldenstrom’s).

Camping and fishing occupied most of Jimmie’s spare time throughout his life. Many summers were spent with friends and family at Lake Mac (McConaughy). Later in life he added to his love of the outdoors, hunting. As long as he was outdoors, he was happy. He also enjoyed attending church, singing country & gospel music and watching a few sports.

Jimmie is survived by his daughter Korena Varejcka (Billy Calhoun) and his grandson Kaiden Varejcka. A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, June 30th at Wyuka Funeral Home, 3600 O Street Lincoln, NE with Pastor Luke Schnake officiating. Those attending the service, please dress casually. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in care of the family to be designated later. Online condolences may be left at www.wyuka.com.

  2. I have many good memories of Jim from Church, youth and family camps. I always remember his natural music talent. He had a very good baritone/bass sing voice. May the Lord give his family a peace that only he can give.
